People Like Us, Live is an interactive patient education program that invites the participation of people with kidney disease, their families and the health care professionals involved in their care.

The Program's Objectives…

  • To provide unbiased, objective information about available treatment options to individuals not yet on treatment, thus enabling them to make well-informed choices.
  • To provide education to individuals who are already receiving treatment who may be interested in changing their treatment or increasing their knowledge.
  • To reduce anxiety, fear, misinformation and stress.
  • To give ample opportunity for questions and discussion while providing an "informal" support group.
  • To work toward facilitating activities related to daily living.
  • To provide an educational experience and support system that will help individuals adapt to life with kidney disease.
  • To provide education for health care staff who are new to a dialysis or transplant facility.

A Total Program…

People Like Us, Live!  is presented by a "live" faculty supported by multi-media tools.  Each workshop series is built around six classroom presentations:

  • An Introduction to Kidney Disease and its Treatment
  • Hemodialysis: Choosing a Treatment That's Right For You
  • Peritoneal Dialysis: Choosing a Treatment That's Right For You
  • Transplantation: Choosing a Treatment That's Right For You
  • Good Nutrition: Eating Right to Stay Healthy
  • Coping and Lifestyle Issues: Managing Your Kidney Disease
